As hundreds of thousands of fans flock to Doha for the FIFA World Cup 2022, Qatar Airways enjoyed double-digit growth in flight movements last week.

The next four weeks will provide a significant hand to the airline, especially in the push to return to pre-pandemic levels going into the future.

Without further ado, let's get into the numbers.

The Numbers

For November 12-19, the airline handled 516 movements, which is an increase of 11.93% compared to the same period last year as per the seven-day rolling average that we provide here at RadarBox.com.

The airline is around 93 movements short of achieving pre-pandemic levels, but as the tournament progresses, this means that more shuttle flights will have been completed by then.

Below is the last four weeks' worth of data from the carrier:

Date 2019 Numbers 2021 Numbers 2022 Numbers Percentage Difference (2022 vs. 2021)
October 15-22 618 movements 487 movements 519 movements +6.57%
October 21-29 657 movements 485 movements 526 movements +8.45%
October 29-November 5 630 movements 497 movements 549 movements +10.46%
November 5-12 619 movements 477 movements 543 movements +13.84%

What we can see from the last four weeks' worth of data is that the carrier's percentage increases are averaging in the low double-figures.

However, as mentioned, we can probably expect to see these percentages rise further with the additional shuttle flights provided by the carrier.

The Shuttle Flights

Qatar Airways has been utilizing the World Cup as a way of providing shuttle flights for football revelers in Muscat, Oman, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Using a range of aircraft, the airline is operating services between November 21 and December 3 currently that would enable passengers to travel into the Qatari capital, watch a World Cup game, and return home the same day.

In time for the biggest sporting event in football, the World’s Best Airline has successfully completed the installation of a FIFA World Cup decal on 120 aircraft.

The specially-branded aircraft include 48 B777s, 31 B787s, 21 A320s, 12 A330s, and eight A380s. The airline also operates three specially-branded Boeing 777 aircraft hand-painted in FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 livery.

Overall

Whilst other airlines such as Emirates, Flydubai, and others are operating shuttle flights like this, it's clear that Qatar Airways will stand to benefit the most from these flights.

Looking ahead, it's going to be interesting to see what other shuttle additions will be made, as well as around the globe as well if certain countries make it through to the knockout stages of the tournament.

In the meantime, all eyes are on the carrier whilst this worldwide event continues to take place in their home.
